Benefits of Technology in Education

Posted on Nov 30, 2017 in Edu

Technology has played a key role in the way we communicate, in our daily routine or in terms of the equipment we use. It plays a vital role in every aspect of life, and education is no exception. The advancing technology has had a significant impact on the educational scene. Here are some of the benefits of technology in education.

Easy access to information

A good reason to try to change the way young people assimilate information  is that technology accompanies us everywhere. In many European countries and in the USA there have been successfully implemented thousands of projects in schools. Interactive classes which aim to facilitate access to information and training, have significantly improved not only the relationship between students and teacher but also the relationships between parents and students, and the manner in which the student assimilates the information. With the help of technology, information can be more easily stored; digital libraries do not require a physical space and students and even teachers in different parts of the world can access the same source of documentation at the same time.

It allows for new learning techniques

By making information available online and by combining it with rich media content and interactive elements, technology has allowed us to experiment with new learning techniques, most of which are more efficient than traditional educational methods. Such is the case of microlearning, an educational technique used by many apps and platforms. This technique involves small, bite sized lessons which are faster and easier to retain than big pieces of content. This learning tool makes it easier for anyone to learn new things. As long as you have access to the internet, you can access the classes from anywhere in the world, and anyone can find 5 free minutes per day to learn something that interests them. Moreover, microlearning is usually combine with other learning techniques such as gamification or spaced repetition. Through these combinations, the learning process becomes more fun and more engaging.

Increased interest for learning

When it comes to the benefits of technology in education, an important aspect to keep in mind is that technology has truly revolutionized education. For example, computers offer audio-visual interactive programs; PowerPoint presentations and other programs can be used to present the information in an interactive way. With the help of audio-visual effects, this method of learning attracts more interest in learning from students. Students can use much more effective tools for education than the classic pen and paper. Besides, it is also easier to have a laptop with you, as a student, than to carry a lot of books, manuals, notebooks, paper and more.

To encourage collaboration between students, many programs contain themes that require teamwork. This way students learn to work with one another. The first and most important advantage of teamwork is that it increases productivity. Each person uses its own talent and skills to ensure quality results. The more members in a team, the more resources available. Projects are easier to achieve in a team than individually. If one or more members are not available one day, others can take over their duties and so the project will not be slowed down.

Students are more independent

To fully enjoy the benefits of technology in education some changes had to be made. One of the biggest challenges was to change the traditional model of education with a model in which the student is in the spotlight. With the help of computers, students are encouraged to document, investigate and demonstrate their own assumptions, and so, they acquire general knowledge and noncommercial analytical skills .
